Therefore, these spaces are a social fact, they exist and are influencing the lives of young people, ignoring them would be putting a blindfold on our social reality.

As every new fact has people who are in favor of freedom of navigation and against it. The spaces that boys and girls can find there are phenomena that the Internet facilitates, however, the misuse of them can create addictions, mainly in adolescents.

This new communication tool is very powerful, allowing users to view and upload photos, videos and send messages to each other. All these photos and content are not only seen by people close to the user, but the young person has a lot of friends that in real life he/she does not know. This exposes these photos and videos for the free use of others.

According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse(CASA) at Columbia University, on a typical day, 70% of young Americans ( about 17 million) ages 12 to 17 spend anywhere from a minute to several hours on Facebook, MySpace and other social networks such as Instagram and Twitter.

These hours of surfing the web can be productive if you are making use of virtual educational platforms, but most of the time they are not. Excessive use of these networks can generate a feeling of second home, the young person will feel that more interesting things happen on a computer than at home or at school.

Likewise, many of the images and content circulating on social networks may not be to the liking of many parents, as their children may find on the web people using drugs, doing criminal activities or promoting any of these. Being a space of free publication and circulation of content, young people are prone to find any number of things.

Parents could advise their children about the dangers on the web. But generally adults, not having grown up in the Internet era, do not believe that it is possible that this new phenomenon can influence their children, so the first thing they should do is to accept this new reality and inform themselves about what is in these spaces and the dangers that exist.

It is always good to know the realities, even if they are virtual, through which children and adolescents move. That is why if parents take an interest, spend time and show security to their children, they will be able to share the virtual world that their little ones have in the networks and not feel excluded from that environment.

Parents can teach their children about the dangers of uploading photos to the web, as well as uploading personal information, since both will be visible to unimaginable numbers of people. This information and photos can be used against the teenager and in many cases against the parents as well.

Young people are not informed about these dangers, and although they receive advice on social networks about this, nothing better comes from their parents.

Las redes sociales en los niños y adolescentes constituyen una parte importante de su día, pues pasan horas navegando en estos espacios virtuales, y la mayoría de veces navegan sin la supervisión de sus padres.

[4

post-1298","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-disciplina-positiva
["GET
